Presas Filipino Martial Arts | The 4th Generation

The 4th generation of the Presas Family has continued to promote their fathers’ Filipino Martial Art Systems.

Dr. Remy Presas Jr., son of Remy Amador Presas

Remy Jr’s first FMA teacher was his father Grandmaster Remy Amador Presas.  Not only did he start learning Modern Arnis from his father.  Remy Jr. was also his father’s training partner.

“…Grandmaster Presas would work out with his son Remy Jr.,  certain things he would practice with Remy Jr. that he did not with others.  Grandmaster Presas had thoughts that if he showed everything to others he would be challenged later on.  So there were things that were kept to himself or were shared only with family.”1

Remy Presas Jr had many FMA teachers besides his father.  “When Remy Presas Jr was in the 5th grade, his father Grandmaster Remy Presas Sr. left the Philippines on the invitation of Grandmaster Max Pallen of Senkotiros.”2  “Remy Jr. would train with [Grandmaster Remy’s students] Jerry Dela Cruz, and then once Jerry Dela Cruz moved away, Rosemary Presas the wife of Grandmaster Presas would have Remy Jr. work out with [another of Grandmaster Remy’s students] Rodel Dagooc.”3

“It was in 2001 that Dr. Remy Presas Jr. finally fully dedicated himself to teaching the art of Modern Arnis. During his fathers final days, he and his father spoke and Grandmaster Presas wanted his son to continue the leadership in promoting the family art of Modern Arnis.”4

In an interview for FMA Digest, Remy Jr.  said that Filipino martial arts grew in popularity in “the late 70’s 80’s and 90’s through the contribution of Modern Arnis.  No other system in the Filipino martial arts really had the concept of cross training…[with] different [martial art] systems.”5

Besides continuing to teach his father’s Modern Arnis system, Remy Jr. has added to the system – expanding in the topic areas of Visidario (rapid counter striking), Dumog (wrestling/grappling) and Sikaran (kicking).6
